To report your child absent due to illness from school, please use the StudyBugs app. This is required for every day they are off sick. All parents and carers should have downloaded the app if at all possible, at the start of term. You can download the app here: studybugs.com/about/parents or report the absence through a web browser.
Alternatively, if you do not have internet access you may call the main school number 01403 627430 and leave a message stating your child’s name, tutor group and reason for absence.
Upon a student’s return from a period of absence we place the responsibility on the student to find out about missed lessons/homework. This can be done by talking to fellow students from their classes (their tutor can help with this during tutor time), visiting the subject area during break or lunch to see the member of staff or sending an email to the teacher which they can show to staff detailing the absence and that work set will be caught up on within a reasonable time.
If an absence is for more than a few days, please contact the tutor to discuss how catching up can be organised.
Wherever possible, medical/dental appointments should be arranged outside school hours. Where this is not possible please email enquiries@bohunthorsham.com with proof of appointment where possible. Failure to provide either of those may result in the absence being unauthorised.
Headteachers have been directed by the Government not to authorise any absence from school unless there is an ‘exceptional’ circumstance. You must get permission from the headteacher if you want to take your child out of school for a holiday in term time.
It’s up to the headteacher on how many days your child can be away from school if it is granted. You must get permission from the headteacher if you are planning to take your child out of school during term time. To request an authorised absence please complete and return the attached form to the school reception office.
Your child may be allowed to miss school for the following exceptional circumstances:
If you do not get permission and you take your child out of school, this will be recorded as an unauthorised absence.
In West Sussex, they may issue a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) if a pupil has accrued unauthorised absence from school and the school has referred the matter to them. For more information please visit the School Absences page on westsussex.gov.uk.
