Celebrating Results

“Nothing is impossible. The word itself says ‘I’m Possible’.”
― Audrey Hepburn, actress and humanitarian

As this year’s Year 11 cohort heads into their second round of mock exams, last year’s results are published on national comparison websites; so it seems like the perfect time to celebrate Bohunt Horsham’s founding students’ exceptional achievements in their GCSE examinations last summer. Their hard work, determination, and resilience truly paid off, and we could not be more proud of them.

One of the standout successes from this year’s results is that our students secured the highest percentage (60%) of Grade 5+ in both Mathematics and English across the entire town! This is a remarkable accomplishment and a testament to the dedication of our students, the unwavering support from families, and the exceptional teaching provided by our staff. Achieving such strong results in these core subjects opens many doors for our students’ future education and career opportunities. This percentage is also significantly higher than both the county and country averages.

Whilst 5+ is considered a strong pass, it is also important to celebrate the 76% of students who achieved a 4+ in English and Maths; a 4+ is considered a good pass and opens doors to post 16 study without the need to resit. Nationally, only 67% of students achieved 4+ in English and Maths last summer.

Another significant highlight is that more than twice as many of our students entered the English Baccalaureate (EBacc) compared to the local authority and national averages. This reflects our commitment to providing a broad and ambitious curriculum that prepares our students for a successful future. Subjects included in this measure are History, Geography, Mandarin, Spanish, French, Combined Science (which covers Biology, Chemistry, and Physics), three single sciences, such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Computer Science, Mathematics, English Literature and English Language. Students at Bohunt Horsham made significantly more progress than the national average in the EBacc slots.

Furthermore, our Year 11 students from summer 2024 made more than the national average progress in their GCSEs, demonstrating their dedication and perseverance. Their impressive Attainment 8 score of 51 is significantly higher than both the local authority average in West Sussex and the national average for England. This further reinforces the high standards of academic excellence that we continue to uphold at our school.

Maths and Science were especially strong areas for the school with almost a third of the school achieving a grade 7+ (considered an A in old grades) in maths and almost half of those entered achieving a grade 7+ in further mathematics. Almost half of all students entered for physics achieved a grade 7+ and a third of students entered for chemistry also achieved a 7+.

With just 123 students in the first year group, we were incredibly proud to see our students walk away with a total of 260 GCSEs graded 7-9, which are considered to be equivalent to grades A, A* and A**.

Beyond the impressive statistics, what makes these results even more special is the journey our students undertook to achieve them. Over the past few years, they have faced unique challenges, yet they demonstrated remarkable perseverance and ambition. Their commitment to learning and their aspirations for success have truly set them apart.

We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to our incredible teaching staff, whose tireless efforts, expertise, and passion for education have played a vital role in our students’ success. Their dedication to nurturing talent, providing support, and instilling confidence in our young people has been instrumental in achieving these results.

Finally, a huge thank you to our families for your constant encouragement and partnership with us in supporting the students. Your role in their success cannot be overstated, and we greatly appreciate the collaboration between home and school.

As we look ahead, we are confident that this year’s students will continue to build on this success, and we remain committed to maintaining and surpassing these high standards.

Once again, congratulations to our exceptional Year 11 students – we are so proud of you all!
