Bohunt Horsham Primary – Frequently Asked Questions

Is secondary enrolment guaranteed?

Yes, we are an all-through school; this means that our primary pupils will automatically move up into Year 7 without having to reapply, guaranteeing a secondary place.

How does your admissions process work?

Applications to join Reception in September 2025 are administered through West Sussex County Council. You can select Bohunt Horsham Primary as your first preference. Our admissions policy for 2025/2026 shows that if we are oversubscribed we will first prioritise looked after children (those previously described as in care), then those with exceptional medical or social needs, then children of staff, then children who are siblings of students currently on roll and then we will prioritise based on distance which means children living nearest the school as measured by a straight line. More detail about each of these criteria can be found in our admissions policy.

Applying for a Place

What are the timings of your day?

We open our primary phase of the school and greet children at 8.30am. By 8.45am, we make sure the entrance is secure. If any child arrives after that time, they can head to the main school office where one of our friendly team members will happily accompany them to their classroom. Our day will end at 3pm and reception class children will be collected from outside their classrooms.

Will you provide wrap-around care?

Before school, wrap-around care is provided from 7:15am until the start of the school day, when children are walked to their class and passed directly to their named member of staff. After school, they are collected from their class and can be cared for until 6pm. We are very pleased to be working with Rocketeers who provide our wrap around care. For more information, visit www.rocketeerschildcare.co.uk

How will my child be supported in settling in?

All children offered a place at Bohunt Horsham are invited in for a series of induction events during the summer term to allow them to become more familiar with the environment and to meet our friendly staff as well as their new classmates.

During the first week of the September term, each child will be offered a home visit which has proven to be really important in developing secure relationships with their key adults. Following this they will have one week of a reduced timetable in school to allow for a soft start, proven to harness greater success in settling in for school starters.

Do primary age children mix with the children from the secondary phase?

The primary phase is designed and built as a separate phase with secure access points between each provision. Secondary age students cannot pass unaccompanied into the primary and primary age children cannot pass into the secondary, although our vision is that there will be more collaboration as the school develops. Examples of this cross-phase collaboration include mentoring and buddy support, use of specialist teaching spaces and specialist teachers from the secondary in the primary phase, for example in modern languages and sport.

What does the uniform look like and where can I buy it?

Our Horsham based school uniform provider is Taylor Made who have produced cardigans and jumpers in a range of sizes as well as a logoed book bag and samples will be available to see at the open events.

Further information on the summer/winter uniform and how to purchase it will be made available to parents when school places are allocated.

How is catering managed at Bohunt Horsham?

Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) are provided for all pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. Catering at Bohunt is provided by Accent Catering who have their kitchens located on site so all food is freshly prepared and cooked on site each day. The primary school children are served their meals in the main primary hall. If you would prefer for your child to have a packed lunch, these may be stored on the lunch trolleys; we do insist that there are absolutely no nut products within them for the safety of our community.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch by emailing primary@bohunthorsham.com and we will reply to you as soon as possible.

“My son hasn’t stopped talking about his first morning at school. He really enjoyed it! Not a reaction I was expecting as he really struggled with settling into nursery. I’m over the moon by how happy and positive he is”
