Primary

We would like to extend a very warm welcome from Bohunt Horsham Primary. We are excited to show you what we have developed for your children.

Bohunt Horsham Primary is a purpose-built primary provision as part of the all-through Bohunt Horsham. We are a two-form entry primary, catering for Reception to Year 6. Our fresh, open learning spaces have been designed with the children’s experience at the heart. We recognise that starting the journey of formal education can be a daunting prospect (not just for the little person but also for their loved ones) and it is our sole mission to make this transition as smooth and reassuring as possible, whilst offering the most exciting and engaging educational experiences to begin a life of learning and achievement, nurturing today the game-changers of tomorrow.

Our ethos

The ethos of Bohunt Education Trust is ‘enjoy respect achieve’ and this translates in early years education as the core principles, ‘play care grow’. We believe that children learn best when they feel happy and safe in a school with a positive, inclusive learning environment that lays the foundation for future success.

Our vision

The highest expectations, an ethos of ‘enjoy, respect, achieve’, unparalleled opportunity and highly effective teaching combine to develop students who are ‘game-changers’. In the primary phase of our all-through school, we aim to provide an excellent education building confident, curious and kind children who will grow up to make the world a better place.

What does enjoyment look like in the primary phase?

  • ‘Play’ is an essential component of early childhood education, which encourages children to explore, experiment and develop their creativity.
  • In primary education, the ‘play’ principle is manifested through activities that are enjoyable and educational, e.g. games, puzzles and hands-on learning experiences. Play allows children to develop social skills, emotional intelligence and problem-solving abilities whilst having fun.

How is respect built into the provision for children in the primary phase?

  • ‘Care’ in the context of primary education extends to fostering a respectful and nurturing environment where children feel safe, listened to and valued.
  • Staff should create a caring atmosphere by actively listening to children, showing empathy and addressing their needs. This principle also encourages respect for diversity and inclusion, teaching children to appreciate differences amongst their peers.

What kinds of achievement are celebrated in the primary phase?

  • ‘Grow’ emphasises the importance of personal and academic development. In primary education, ‘grow’ means setting age-appropriate academic goals and helping children progress in their individual learning journey. It also means nurturing character development, resilience and a growth mindset to help children achieve their full potential.
  • Growth of a child reflects their development of identity and self image as they recognise their developing abilities, interests and strengths

“We have been so incredibly impressed with Bohunt Primary. We knew it would be good as my older children have attended the Secondary school but they have exceeded my expectations. We feel so privileged to be part of this growing school, my mother even commented it felt like a private school!” Bohunt Horsham Parent 2024
