Are you eligible for Free School Meals?
Did you know that it is easy to apply for Free School Meals in England? As personal circumstances continue to change due to the cost of living crisis, you may be entitled to meals where previously you would not have qualified.
You may be entitled to free school meals if any of the following apply:
● Income Support
● income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
● income-related Employment and Support Allowance
● support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
● the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
● Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
● Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
● Universal Credit – if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)
As a school, for every student who qualifies for free school meals, we receive £955 from West Sussex County Council. Schools are able to use this as they see fit. Bohunt Horsham typically uses it for reductions in school trips, uniform costs, assistance with the iPad scheme, and potential further access to resources to support your child’s learning (textbooks and cookery resources, for example). This can provide an excellent start to a student’s life at Bohunt, and allow them to participate in line with their peers. It can also provide you, as the family, a degree of comfort and support.
